Are You Up To Our 30 Day Challenge?

April 06, 2015

Last Tuesday, President Obama proclaimed April 2015 as National Financial Capability Month and called “upon all Americans to observe this month with programs and activities to improve their understanding of financial principles and practices.” The goal is to “take time to increase our knowledge of our finances and encourage our friends and family to do the same.” He then pointed out the free financial resources available at MyMoney.gov, ConsumerFinance.gov, and 1-800-FED-INFO.

To join the fun, my friends and colleagues here at Financial Finesse began a 30 day challenge as part of Financial Capability Month. This social media event on Facebook and Twitter was designed to help people take charge of their personal finances with an opportunity to win a financial coaching session with one of our CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals. For the past week, a simple step toward financial independence has been posted with user posts encouraged and will continue until the end of the month. If you are interested in participating, check us out on Twitter at #financialwin or #30simplesteps.

At first glance, learning new financial behaviors and taking control of one’s financial life can be a seemingly difficult and overwhelming process, but keep in mind that you are not expected to be a financial genius to proceed through the steps to financial freedom. You do not need to know everything about managing your personal financial matters to succeed. You simply need to know just enough to be dangerous! Do not allow fear and doubt to stand in your way of learning new ways to manage your finances.

National Financial Capability Month may have been designed to increase financial awareness across the nation but it starts with each story of individual empowerment. What are you financially capable of accomplishing in the next 30 days? Do you have the confidence required for success? If not, CFP® professionals and financial coaches can help you gain the confidence needed to move forward. We look forward to hearing more about your story in the comments below or visit us on Facebook or Twitter to participate in the 30 Day Challenge.
